January 2002
So, another New Year. The last one brought the full introduction of Thomas to the household. He is totally accepted by all but Georgie who is so very fussy about who she likes and who she doesn't. Can't see them EVER being friends. I think it has a lot to do with her being the last in and as such the baby and now this whacking great Ginger brute (7kg)
has taken that place.
Whilst upstairs the other day I heard the sound of jingly bells, Buster was on one bed and Runcie and Thomas on another so I assumed Georgie was fishing around in the cat toy basket which is kept in the hall. I leaned over the bannister to make eye contact with the toy player, strange, I don't have a black and white cat? After many months of no sightings, Patches was back! He took one look and headed for the cat flap. Since then he has snuck in on many occasions always heading for the toys. Very odd, if he is not careful he will cut off his only means of escape (through the kitchen) and come face to face with 4 territorial cats.
Runcie is getting very thin now, although she still has a healthy appetite and loves to chase Thomas around the house and garden, she does however sleep a great deal more than she used to but then she is 15 this year and although that is not a great age for a cat she had a very bad start in life which I am sure knocked a few years of her expectancy!
To try and give Runcie a boost I cooked coley fillets on Saturday, nothing wrong with her appetite that's for sure! Demolished a complete fillet and finished off what Thomas left, he is definitely a meat eater!
Another new visitor last night, Georgie sounded as though something was killing her and I assumed it to be Patches. However when I went outside there was Georgie, 4 times larger than her normal fluffy self starring at a HUGE cat, mainly white with black splodges whereas Patches is black with white spodges, goodness knows where this one came from!
No sign of the large white cat again but Patches is still on the scene. I feel a little sorry for him really. He is not touching the food in the kitchen which he has to walk past but heads straight for the toys in the hall, he looks so upset when I chase him out. Not deterring him though.
You can tell it's not that pleasant outside today, Runcie and Thomas are asleep on my bed, Buster is asleep on the spare bed and Georgie is asleep on the sofa......hard life!
Poor Runcie was a bit embarrassed the other day. There she was sound asleep, and I mean sound asleep on the arm of the sofa. So deep was she that her head had dropped to one side and was almost hanging over the arm. Then disaster struck! She fell off! Luckily she fell onto the sofa itself so wasn't hurt at all, however, it was quite funny although Runcie couldn't see the funny side, she just gave me that "I am not amused" look and went back to sleep in the safety of the floor in front of the fire.
Runcie seems to have been in the wars a bit, she was just showing me that despite her advancing years (15 this year) she could still jump onto the edge of the bath and like an agile acrobat walk the full length without any problem when she decided to go just that 1 step further (bad mistake Runcie), with a look of "see how clever I am?" she leapt from the bath edge to land on top of the linen basket. Not a problem you may think, but, this linen basket is the canvas, folding flat kind and I do not do the buttons up to keep the lid on and so.........................she feel straight into the bath towels that had been put there that morning, at least it was a soft landing!
