Diary
I am away for the good part of August and some of September so I am closing the diary for the foreseeble. Thanks for reading.

Georgie found a slow worm tonight and had great games with it. Now I can rescue birds, frogs and mice but slow worms or snakes well they are on their own. This one played dead and Georgie was governed by her stomach and came in for something to eat, at this point the slow worm made a dash for it, not to be seen again. Thank goodness.
30 July 2001
Very, very hot nothing doing all day except sleeping.
29 July 2001
It was a bit like the film High Noon this evening. At the back of my house I have a narrow unmade lane that runs the length of the 7 houses and finishes in a dead end in my car port. This evening, Patches was to be seen striding down the lane towards the house. Buster was in the car port. He starts walking towards Patches. Then Thomas joins him. Patches sits down. Buster and Thomas sit down. Bearing in mind there is at least 50 yards between them! We wait. We wait some more. And some more, in fact we wait about 10 minutes and then Patches goes home!
28 July 2001
Each of the cats has found their favoutite spot. Buster, under the Rock Rose bush, Thomas mainly lying on the gravel path in full sun by the Lavender bush, Runcie in the shade under the Lilac Tree and Georgie? well when she is in the garden she curls up on top of the large pot housing the Russian Vine, I wonder if she knows how cute she looks?
27 July 2001
Bedroom will have to wait, far to nice to be indoors. Paint and paper all bought just waiting for it to rain now!
26 July 2001
Spent today in the garden doing outside jobs, lovely day. All cats outside, 3 in the garden as usual and the 4th, Georgie who knows where. What I do know is that she will come back covered in grass seed and flower heads. I was right, she was covered! Loved being groomed and fussed over for the next 20 minutes though, I swear she does it on purpose.
25 July 2001
Wall plastered, can't paper it for 3 months! all the holes filled and sanded. Getting warmer, cats are not so keen to play in their new playroom I am pleased to say, want to be outside.
24 July 2001
Thea weather is supposed to be turning hot again. If that is the case the bedroom will have to wait. It is almost fully prepared, bit of a delay as I had to have part of the chimney breast replastered! However, the builder was a cat lover and Runcie especially was very friendly. I think given half a chance he would have taken her home with him, I could hear him chatting away to her and her quite happily responding.
23 July 2001
They didn't like beong left. Talk about sulks, you would think I had left them with no food or water for a month instead of half a day. Obviously they are getting too used to the attention.
22 July 2001
The cats certainly approve of me working from home, they love the attention that they are getting. Off out today so they will have to fend for themselves for a couple of hours, they won't like that!
21 July 2001
The discarded pieces of wallpaper also make for a great game. They will have to stay out of the way when I start painting, I can all too easily remember having a black cat with terracotta markings and a terracotta wall having black cat hair additions, it is not happening again!
20 July 2001
Started clearing the spare bedroom ready for decorating. Cats think this is just for them! What fun, Tthe bed is on its side with the mattress making a great climbing frame and guess what? now we can get on top of the wardrobe! The mattress also makes a good tunnel to chase each other down, what great fun, thanks Mum! The racket that is going on above me tells me they are having a good time.
19 July 2001
Thomas has discovered the delights of being brushed, and about time too! He has been shedding his ginger fur all over the place. As sooon as I went near him with a brush he would back off. Until now. Suddenly he has found that actually the sensation is quite nice and not only that but that it makes the hot weather more bearable. I have to say that this has only really come about as he has been watching georgie quite intently whilst she has her daily groom and I suppose curiousity finally got the better of him.
18 July 2001
The cats are all very lethargic and fed up with not knowing whether they should be in or out, the weather cannot make up its mind. Buster has once again decided that it would be nice to sleep with me and has done for the last 2 nights. As I said before as he is an older cat he is not so keen on getting up and going out as soon as the dawn chorus begins which is fine by me. In fact, I left him asleep this morning!
17 July 2001
Better today, even Thomas ventured out for a while and dozed in the little warm sunshine that we had. Georgie as usual was off and about for most of the day.
16 July 2001
Bit of a quiet day all round really, not a very nice summer day, a little rain, a little sun, a little wind. Cats weren't sure whether to stay in or out. In the end they all decided it was safer in, found their individual spots and basically slept until their stomachs told them otherwise.
15 July 2001
Buster has decided that as head male cat his place is in the bedroom with me at night although he is quite happy to share with Georgie, they both have a separate spot, Georgie under the bed, Buster on top! They have all missed their extra affection and treats, but they'll get used to it I am sure.
14 July 2001
Talk about spoilt! 2 extra people to constantly fuss and stroke them, they didn't know where to go first! Even Georgie was friendly. On top of that they found that if they flashed those "I never get fed anything nice" look they got all sorts of little titbits from the table! Thomas still doesn't like prawns but that didn't upset Buster who promptly had his share as well. If it wasn't for the fact that they are all reasonably rounded I swear people would think I didn't feed them.
6 July 2001
No storm! A little rain and 1 flash of lightening so another humid day to day. Cats don't like humid weather, neither do I! Have visitors for the next week so will update again on 14 July.
5 July 2001
Another very hot day where the cats and I just moved from sun to shade and back again. Should be a storm tonight to clear the air, that will be good.
4 July 2001
Spoke too soon. Came downstirs this morning to discover 1 mouse lying on its back with its 4 legs stuck rigid in the air! No culprit in sight but my money is on Georgie.
3 July 2001
All quiet on the mouse front, basically I think it is far too hot for anyone to do anything energetic!
2 July 2001
At 7.30am Georgie was totally preoccupied with a clump of osteospernum, so preoccupied she would not come in for breakfast. On closer inspection an hour later I found that the flowers were of no interest whatsoever, it was the mouse that was hiding in them that was the prize! She saw Thomas off when he tried to muscle in on her game and in the process the mouse saw its chance to make a quick getaway. Too slow! Georgie caught it and carried it off to another part of the garden away from Thomas. I tried to intervene when I saw the mouse was still very much alive and unhurt and managed to move Georgie away with the broom whilst the mouse made a dash for it. Georgie was most upset but lost her mouse. I assume it is still somewhere in the garden as she still won't come in. Time will tell. I now have a few flattened begonias and I know the mouse went under the Lavender bush because that is also flattened at on side with broken bits lying around. However, neither the mouse nor Georgie are anywhere to be seen.
1 July 2001
Another very warm day, Buster slept with me last night, was as good as gold, I expect that as he is slightly older than Georgie he quite likes a lie in especially if he is the centre of attention. Anyway, there was no getting up to let him out at 5am, he had no intention of going anywhere until I did!
