April 2002

Easter and the start of April and the sun is STILL shining! Most of the weekend spent in the garden, cats helped me weed the flower beds, Thomas thought it was a great game digging little holes all over the place!

Runcie just loves the sun, she found herself a sunny spot and sunbathed, got quite uptight with Thomas when he tried to play. Georgie disappeared as usual and came back later very warm and covered in grass, Buster wandered in and out but mainly stayed in on the bed, needs to be a great deal warmer for him to stay outside.

I obtained a wonderful device the other day that is supposed to emit "cat friendly" smells into the room. It works like a vapouriser which you plug into an electric socket. Humans can't smell anything but it is supposed to make cats feel friendly towards each other. I have to say that although very sceptical at first it does seem to be having a good effect on Thomas and Georgie, there has certainly been less friction and they have managed to stay in the kitchen together with no animosity, even touched noses! Long may it last.

There has been some improvement in temperment with Georgie, not a lot but some. Today I saw the LARGEST cat I have ever seen! Another Ginger with a collar and quite obviously very well cared for. He sat outside the back door looking at Thomas who was half in and half out of the flap with a VERY bushy tail. However, having seen the size of this monster his bravery failed him and he didn't know whether to try and back in and lose face, go out and risk the possibility of being beaten up or ( the option he went for) stay where he was and wait to be rescued. This other cat trotted back down the path when I went out but wasn't actually in any hurry. Beautiful animal.

Georgie has taken to sleeping back with me, altough I would prefer her to stay in the kitchen with the others she is denied access back to the house by Thomas should she venture out, at least by staying with me she doesn't go out until about 5.30am so, if she is not allowed in again she only has to wait about an hour before I get up to get breakfast.

I am once again trying to go away this weekend and the "cat sitter" has promised to keep notes of the antics in my absence, still, another couple of days to go yet, so I may make another entry should anything interesting happen!

As you know, Georgie tends to sleep with me but always wants to go out about 5.30am. This morning was no exception. However, the night before I had been unable to locate Buster and assumed he was out, as he often is come bed time. Having let Georgie out I returned to bed to find Buster curled up on the bed in the spare room, he raised his head and gave me a look which said "fooled you that time didn't I ?". I returned to bed and left the door open in case he wanted to come in. From downstairs there came the sound of an angry Thomas who it seemed did not want to stay in the kitchen any longer. He howled and scratched at the door, I pulled the duvet over my head and ignored him. A moment or two later there was a distinct sound of purring from the side of the bed, Buster had joined me I thought, I opened my eyes and found that I was almost nose to nose with a very proud Thomas who had managed to pull open the kitchen door and join me.
