Welcome back! I have a little more time on my hands now and hope to restart the diary pages. I hope you will continue to enjoy the antics of Buster, Thomas and Georgie and their friends!
April 2006
Ok, so I didn't quite get around to restarting in 2004 or for that matter in 2005 but got there in the end!
No major issues since the last entry in December 2003, Buster is still with me, he will be 17 this year (I think) just to recap, Buster arrived in 1994 very thin, very timid, obviously ill treated and lost, the Vet thought he was about 5 years old. Georgie was "chosen", well, sort of, a work colleague had 4 kittens to house, 3 were snapped up, the ugly female runt no-one wanted, so.........! That was August 1997. Thomas was another "Buster" arrived 2 weeks after I had to have Lester put to sleep in May 2000, thought to be about 6 years old, thin, matted with an eye infection and not liked or accepted by any of the others, grew to be best mates with Runcie.
Alot of mice have been brought as gifts, that's the trouble with being in the country I guess. Mind you they were all good mousers even when we lived in the centre of Leigh on Sea in Essex. What they have been amused by are rabbits! Georgie shepherded a baby one home, did not attack it in anyway just herded it to the garden. It however was not impressed at being rounded up by a long haired stranger, was quite frightened and made a dive for safety behind the shed. Much to Georgie's disgust I locked her in the kitchen, retrieved said bunny and pushed it back through the hedge towards mummy and daddy bunny, not seen a rabbit in the garden since although plenty in the orchard behind us. We didn't get any of those, we had foxes, large ones, one pair visited the garden very regularly, not seen any since we moved to Norfolk.
Now, when I moved in I may have mentioned there were around 70 or so greyhounds kenneled next door, well, they have now gone and been replaced by.........cows, ducks, turkeys, geese, pigs and chickens! Georgie is NOT keen on the chickens and even less so with the Rooster! Not I might add that it has done anything more than look at her but that has been enough. Most of the poultry is kept inside runs but there are approximately 7 chickens and 2 roosters that are totally free to roam, she gives them a VERY wide berth.
5 pigs made a break for freedom last week, Thomas was not impressed and growled and spat his disgust very vocally, from the safety of the top of a 6' wall mind you! Buster was asleep and missed it all.
A new kitten has arrived next door, Milly is now about 10 months old. She has been to stay twice when the owners were away as she hadn't been vaccinated or spayed so as she needed to be kept in she stayed here. Gets on quite well with both Buster and Thomas but as usual Georgie is very anti. She is often in the garden and still pops in now and again. She is pictured on the fun page.
Very sunny today although cold. Thomas asleep on the bed behind me. Buster and Georgie sunning themselves in a sheltered spot in the garden, no doubt they will be in later when the sun moves around.
Busy weekend, for me anyway! Good Friday saw my neighbour and I clearing moss and weed roots from a dark sun starved area behind her house ready for the laying of shingle, Easter Saturday saw the two of us shifting 1.5 tonnes of shingle from front of house to back and raking it level. All this time, on both days my three lazy lumps were either indoors on the bed (Saturday) not much sun or, in a sunny spot in the garden asleep! Oh to be a cat! Thomas did call in next door when we were having a sandwich, his stomach rules his life, he decided to help himself to the food Milly had left for later, she then chased him round the house and out into the garden where they played "tag" for about 10 minutes until tiredness once again overcame him, such a hard life. Oh he did have a mad 5 minutes chasing, catching and killing a leaf!
Not speaking to Thomas! He brought me a present last Monday evening. I was not feeling my best having a mild dose of flu, spent most of the day in bed with said 3 cats for company then, moved from bed to sofa which, is where I was when at about 8.45 the cat flap opened with a large thud. There then followed LOUD squeaking, now, having had 4 legged rodents with long tails in the loft during the winter months and, knowing that these particular "friends" are fairly close by in view of the many farms and so food stores I feared the worst. However, when I turned on the light in the kitchen I found a very proud Thomas standing over a now dead baby rabbit! A rat I could have forgiven, but a rabbit? and a baby at that? No, not necessary, he is well fed after all. Bunny was removed and Thomas kicked outside (NOT literally I assure you). When he was finally allowed in he searched for his gift and appeared most upset it had gone. He has not caught anything since!
After a glorious sunny day yesterday it is typical bank holiday weather today and all 3 are asleep in various warm spots indoors!
