June, July and August 2003

So many things have been happening since 16 April when I opened my shop in Acle that I just haven't had the time to update the site, apologies! Working 6 days a week from 8.30pm to 6.00pm in the shop then cooking a meal and catching upon emails and paperwork leaves just Sunday for washing, ironing, cleaning, gardening and pleasure, something had to go and I am sorry to say it was the pleasure and as such this site. However, I have a few minutes so lets try and catch up.

Buster, Thomas and Georgie have all adapted to the new house and the surrounding countryside and have there to be an abundant supply of mice, baby rats, birds and other delights to catch and bring home as presents to me. Most thoughtful. Sadly, Runcie died on Thursday 24 July. She was 16 years old (I think) she had a very large cancerous growth that had attached itself to her ribcage so was inoperable, although given her age and the fact she was in no discomfort I doubt I would have put her through an operation anyway, she also had an overactive Thyroid, no teeth and was stone deaf. Subsequently I had not let her out on her own since March of this year, she had accompanied walks in the garden which she loved and generally she made no attempt to go out from the garden, I say generally as every now and again she would make a very purposeful walk to the gate with a determined look as if to say " I know there is a big world beyond that gate, I vaguely remember it and I want to see if it is still there!". She had a stroke and died very peacefully in her basket with me holding her paw. Each of the others came up and gave her a lick on the head, one at a time, which was very moving.

Thomas is very depressed, after all. Runcie was the only one who really liked him! He is now having Bach Flower Remedies (Gorse & Oak) in his water bowl and is showing good signs of improvement. Buster brought me a present of a live mouse yesterday morning and Georgie attempted to give a live baby rat this morning, fortunately when trying to complain that I wouldn't let her, she dropped it in the undergrowth!

Hopefully, I will find the time to update on a more regular basis in the future.

More mice!

Thomas is making a good improvement on his Bach Flower Remedy. He is still pretty clingy with me but even Georgie seems to sense he is quite distraught and has actually been nice to him!
