March 2003
Well, would you believe it, sunshine! All the cats have been out and about, with the work next door now mainly inside it has left an adventure playground for cats. This together with the newly revealed orchard to the back has been great fun as far as the cats are concerned. Runcie is still the most adventurous roaming here there and everywhere, but Thomas is usually out the longest.
We have acquired new, well secondhand beds. Firstly a dog basket
that used to belong to Shandy and secondly a cat basket belonging to Twinkle,
both of whom live with my mother. The dog basket came first and was a great
hit with Thomas, Buster and Runcie although Runcie looked a little lost. So
we persuaded Twinkle to part from hers. Not a difficult problem, neither Shandy
nor Twinkle could be bothered with their baskets anymore. This was more Runcie
size although she is still a bit small for it, however, it was claimed by Thomas.
Not to be out done Runcie attempted to reclaim the bed for herself.
Last night howeve
r
Thomas decided that the bed was his and tried to climb in with her! Basically
he squashed her and I pushed him out. Instead of using the dog bed that was
next to Runcie, he sulked and slept on the floor in front of the bed, sorry,
no photo!
To make matters worse a little later when he still couldn't get in with her he started to sulk some more and went and sat face first in an old carry basket and refused to come out or look at anyone.
Runcie had her annual visit to the Vet today. She sits on my shoulder on the local bus for the 6 miles or so and loves to look out of the window. She tends to usually get travel sick, but, provided she is not enclosed in a basket she seems to be ok. The lump on her side is, as I thought a very large mass and is very attached to the ribcage. I had told the Vet that I did not want any exploratory surgery at her age, the Vet agreed and also said that in view of where the lump was it would probably be impossible to remove even in a younger cat. Runcie though, still has very bright eyes and a lovely silky coat and for her age, coming up to 16 years is still pretty lively. She has taken to wandering off again and exploring. It is a shame though that she insists on turning left after going through the hedge towards the road instaed of right which would take her through an orchard and into fields!
