November 2002
Into November already, bonfire night just around the corner, luckily none of the cats really want to stay out for too long yet and I have not fitted the cat flap so they will be easy to keep in.
They encountered Misty today.
Misty is the cat that lived in this cottage before. Her owners have bought the
cottage next door which they are renovating so, as they are not able to move
in yet the neighbour on the other side is looking after Misty until they can.
No point in uprooting a cat from her favourite haunts only to bring her back
some 5 months later. Misty met Thomas first. Thomas puffed himself up and gave
a little sideways dance. He clearly did not want the confrontation though but
as he was nearest to me he was certainly not going to show cowardice and turn
his back on Misty so I threw a small stick in between them and Misty backed
off a bit allowing Thomas the opportunity to run like hell to the open kitchen
door.
Then Misty met Buster, little bit of spitting and swearing on both sides and
again, Buster ran hell for leather to the safety of the kitchen. Lets bear in
mind at this point that both Buster and Thomas are large males and Misty? well
she is a dainty female! So next we have Misty meeting Runcie, well sort of amyway.
Misty was feeding in a vacant
rabbit hutch, sheltering from the rain when Runcie walked passed. Runcie did
a tour of the garden and then walked back, each time passing within a whisker
of Misty. No spitting, swearing or for that fact realization that Misty was
there even, actually she probably didn't notice.
I have since discovered that Runcie has introduced Misty to the delights of
the house next door, encouraging Misty right into the lounge, just as well the
neighbour is intending letting her in the house whilst she is cat sitting!
There are an abundance of cats around here, a massive splodgy white and black called Rupert who lives with his Tabby friend and 2 tortoiseshell kittens who have yet to be allowed out, there is also another ginger tom, smaller than Thomas but I can still see Thomas backing off. What they haven't found yet (I don't think) are the kennels at the end of the lane housing 50 greyhounds!
